Underwood Coffee Table

Underwood began as a chair that tried to capture the most striking aspects of Dame Zaha Hadid’s Vitra Fire Station.

In a bid to translate this chair’s design to other pieces of furniture, simplified forms (chamfered cubes, fileted cubes, cylinders, and cubes) were arranged underneath a flat base. The design then began to evolve into a coffee table. The wood table top was replaced by a slab of glass after noting the enhanced sculptural quality glass afforded one of Isamu Noguchi’s coffee tables.
